SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 16 JULY 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience mainly dry weather on 16 July 2026, although a few showers are likely in several parts of the country. According to the latest weather forecast, light rain may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara. Most other areas of the island are expected to remain dry throughout the day.

Strong winds will continue to affect several regions. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, together with the districts of Matale, Hambantota and Trincomalee. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, especially when travelling or engaging in outdoor activities.

Sea Condition

For sea areas around Sri Lanka, a few showers are expected off the coast from Negombo to Galle via Colombo. South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 40–50 kmph, increasing to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Other sea areas will experience winds of 30–40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.

Sea conditions will be rough at times in the waters from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, while other surrounding sea areas will remain fairly rough. Wave heights may increase to 2.0–2.5 metres in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, making conditions challenging for marine activities.
