Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka on 16 June 2026, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology. Rainfall activity will mainly affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
Residents in these areas can expect intermittent showers throughout the day. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaittivu district after 2.00 p.m. Due to the possibility of thunderstorms, the public is advised to remain alert and take precautions against lightning and temporary localized strong winds.
Fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are also expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Southern and North-Central provinces, and the Trincomalee district. These windy conditions may cause minor disruptions, particularly in exposed areas.

Sea Area Forecast
Showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours. Winds over the surrounding sea areas will be south-westerly with speeds ranging between 30–40 kmph.
