Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread afternoon rainfall across the island. According to the latest forecast, fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm are likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Central provinces. These areas may experience intense downpours at times, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours.
In addition, a few showers are likely in parts of the Southern Province during the morning, creating damp conditions early in the day. Misty conditions can also be expected in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, particularly during the early morning hours, which may reduce visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to remain cautious, as thundershowers may bring temporary localized strong winds and lightning. Necessary precautions should be taken to minimize potential damages and ensure safety.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 25–35 kmph, increasing up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
The sea conditions in these areas will be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected temporarily during thundershowers.
