Atmospheric conditions will become increasingly favorable for afternoon thundershowers across most parts of the island starting from tomorrow, 20 April.
For today, showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North-Western, North-Central and Southern provinces after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall of about 50 mm is likely at some locations, particularly in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. These showers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning.
Meanwhile, mainly dry weather will prevail over the remaining parts of the island during the daytime. In the early hours of the morning, misty conditions can be expected in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, which may reduce visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages caused by lightning and strong winds during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around the island are expected to remain slight, although temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas may develop during thundershowers.
