Showery conditions are expected to continue across much of Sri Lanka on 14 February 2026, with several provinces likely to experience heavy rainfall, according to the latest weather forecast.
Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern and Northern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Uva and Central provinces, and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for possible water accumulation in low-lying regions.
In the Anuradhapura district, several spells of showers are expected throughout the day. Elsewhere across the island, showers or thundershowers will develop at several places after 1.00 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm possible at some locations. These thundershowers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning, and the public is urged to take necessary precautions.
During the early morning hours, misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, reducing visibility along roads, particularly in hilly areas.
In the sea areas around the island, showers may occur at times off the coast extending from Hambantota to Kankasanthurai via Pottuvil and Trincomalee. Thundershowers are also possible in other sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast from Kalutara to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. These areas may experience fairly rough seas, while other sea regions remain moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
