Showery conditions are expected to intensify across much of Sri Lanka on 13 February 2026, with several provinces likely to experience significant rainfall, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa district. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious due to the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying regions.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Northern province and in Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts. Across the rest of the island, showers or thundershowers will develop at several places after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm possible in parts of the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts.
Misty conditions may occur during the early morning hours in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, potentially reducing visibility for motorists.
The public is strongly advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
At sea, showers may occur in areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil via Trincomalee, while thundershowers are possible in other sea areas during the evening or night. Winds will be north-easterly at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in sea areas from Beruwala to Kankasanthurai via Colombo, Puttalam and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
These areas may experience fairly rough seas, while other sea regions will remain moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution.
