Thundershowers and Heavy Rain Expected in Several Areas
Issued at 2.00 p.m. on 25 December 2025
Sri Lanka is expected to experience unstable weather conditions over the next day, with afternoon and evening showers intensifying in several regions, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The forecast indicates that a few showers may occur in the Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in Polonnaruwa, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts during the day.
However, more active weather is expected after 2.00 p.m., with showers or thundershowers likely at several places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts.
Meteorologists warn that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm may occur at some locations, raising the risk of localized flooding and disruptions.
Meanwhile, misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, including Kalutara, Badulla, Galle and Matara districts, which could reduce visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to remain alert and take necessary safety measures against temporary strong winds, lightning, and sudden heavy downpours, particularly during afternoon thunderstorms.
