Showery Weather to Continue Across Sri Lanka on December 18
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 18 December 2025
Showery conditions are expected to persist across several parts of Sri Lanka today due to the continued influence of an easterly wave, the Department of Meteorology said.
Rainfall is forecast at times in the North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, with fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm likely in some areas of the Eastern and Uva provinces, the Central Province and the Polonnaruwa district.
The Northern and North-Western provinces may experience several spells of showers throughout the day, while showers or thundershowers are expected in many other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm is possible in isolated locations during these afternoon and evening showers.
Meanwhile, strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph are anticipated at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces. Similar windy conditions may also affect Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
