Showers or thundershowers are expected across most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, with widespread rainfall likely during the afternoon and evening. Heavy falls exceeding 100 mm are possible at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in Anuradhapura district. These areas should remain alert to periods of intense rainfall.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers. Misty conditions are also expected during the early morning in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Reduced visibility may affect morning travel in these areas.
Sea Areas Forecast – Next 24 Hours
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas around Sri Lanka. Winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction, with speeds of 20–30 kmph.
Sea conditions around the island will generally remain slight. However, during thundershowers, temporarily strong gusty winds of 60–70 kmph and very rough seas can be expected. Fishing and naval communities are advised to remain cautious and monitor weather conditions before heading to sea.
