Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 15 September 2026

A low-level atmospheric disturbance continues to persist in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, bringing unsettled weather conditions to several parts of the country on 15 September. Cloudy skies and showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations, particularly in areas affected by the disturbance.

Showers or thundershowers are also expected at several places elsewhere on the island after 1.00 p.m. The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle. A few showers or thundershowers may also develop in other sea areas during the evening or night.

South-westerly winds will prevail at speeds of 30–40 kmph, while speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

Wave heights in these areas may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres, resulting in rough sea conditions. Naval and fishing communities engaged in marine activities are advised to remain vigilant and closely follow future weather updates.
