Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 07 September 2026
Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of showers, thundershowers and generally fair weather on Monday, 07 September 2026, Several areas could experience afternoon and evening rainfall, particularly across the central, eastern and Uva regions of the country.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is possible at some locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces. Residents and motorists in these areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions, especially during periods of thunderstorms.
A few showers are also expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning. The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by sudden gusty winds and lightning activity.
The sun will be directly overhead in parts of Sri Lanka during this period due to its apparent southward movement. On 07 September, the nearest locations where the sun is expected to be overhead at around 12.08 noon are Galle, Angulugaha, Imaduwa, Telijjawila, Yatiyana and Tangalle.
Sea Weather Forecast
For the next 24 hours, showers may occur in a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers are possible from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the evening or night.
Southwesterly winds are expected at 30–40 kmph, occasionally increasing up to 50 kmph from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar. These sea areas may become fairly rough at times, while temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
