Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of showers, thundershowers and fair weather conditions on **Saturday, 05 September 2026.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m. Some locations may receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm, highlighting the possibility of intense showers in affected areas. Residents in these regions are advised to remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Although rainfall may occur intermittently, weather conditions could vary considerably throughout the day.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur. People are advised to seek safe shelter during thunderstorms and avoid exposed locations.
The Sun will be directly overhead in Sri Lanka during its apparent southward movement from 28 August to 07 September. On 05 September, the Sun is expected to be overhead near Moratuwa, Kesbewa, Polgasowita, Handapangoda, Sri Palabaddala, Bogawanthalawa, Idalgashinna, Yudhaganawa, Kotiyagala and Panama, at approximately 12.08 noon.
Sea Weather Forecast
For the sea areas around Sri Lanka, showers may occur off the coast from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. During the evening or night, showers or thundershowers may occur in several places from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
Winds are expected to be south-westerly at 30–40 kmph, occasionally increasing to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
These sea areas may become rough at times, while wave heights could reach approximately 2.0–2.5 metres from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara. Fishermen and other sea users are advised to remain cautious.
