SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST 17 AUGUST 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience showery weather in several parts of the country on Monday, 17 August 2026. Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may also develop at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas should remain alert to sudden changes in weather conditions.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces and in the Trincomalee District. The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast

Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Wind speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These sea areas will be rough at times, and naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant.

The wave height may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Fishing and marine activities should therefore be carried out with caution, particularly in areas affected by strong winds and rough seas.
