SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 14 AUGUST 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather on Friday, 14 August 2026, with showers or thundershowers affecting several parts of the island. showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is possible at some locations in Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may develop in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces. The public is advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Weather Forecast

Showers may occur at several locations in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Wind speeds may increase to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These areas may experience rough seas, and naval and fishing communities are urged to remain vigilant.

Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Fishermen and other marine operators should closely monitor weather updates and exercise caution while engaging in sea activities.
