SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 11 AUGUST 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather conditions on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, with showers affecting several provinces and districts. According to the latest weather forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology at 2.00 p.m. on 10 August, showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 p.m. Several spells of showers are also expected in the North-Western Province. Residents in areas affected by thunderstorms are advised to remain alert, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the North-Central, North-Western, Central and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours.

Winds over the surrounding seas will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds could increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam.

Winds may also reach up to 50 kmph in the sea areas from Batticaloa to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai and from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Sea conditions will be rough at times in the areas from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam. Naval and fishing communities operating in these areas are urged to remain vigilant. Other affected sea areas are expected to be fairly rough, while temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
