Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 03 August 2026: Heavy Showers, Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected

The Department of Meteorology has forecast unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 03 August 2026, with showers, strong winds, and rough sea conditions expected to continue. Residents in the south-western regions and those involved in marine activities are advised to remain alert and follow weather updates.

Showers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Some locations in these areas are likely to receive fairly heavy rainfall of around 50 mm, which may lead to localized water accumulation in low-lying areas. Meanwhile, the Western and North-Western provinces and the Galle and Matara districts will experience several spells of showers throughout the day.

During the afternoon and evening, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. The rest of the country is expected to experience mainly dry weather.

Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are forecast at times over the North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District. The public is advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Condition

Marine conditions will remain hazardous over the next 24 hours. Showers are expected in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will generally range between 30–40 kmph, increasing to 55–65 kmph in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

These sea areas are expected to be rough to very rough, with wave heights reaching 2.5 to 3.0 metres. The Department of Meteorology advises naval and fishing communities to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant before venturing into these waters.
