SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 18 JULY 2026

Sri Lanka will experience mainly dry weather on 18 July 2026, although a few showers are expected in several parts of the country, according to the latest weather forecast issued at 2.00 p.m. on 17 July 2026. Residents in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, may experience brief showers during the day.

Most other parts of the island are expected to remain dry, providing generally favorable weather conditions. However, strong winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely at times over the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, together with the Matale, Hambantota, and Trincomalee districts. People in these areas are advised to remain cautious, especially when traveling or engaging in outdoor activities.

Sea Condition

Sea conditions will also require close attention over the next 24 hours. A few showers are expected in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will prevail around the island with speeds of 30-40 kmph, increasing to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also reach 50 kmph in the sea areas from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai.

As a result, the sea off the coasts from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai and Galle to Pottuvil will be rough at times, while seas from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai may become fairly rough. Fishermen, naval operators, and other marine users are advised to exercise caution before venturing into these sea areas.
