SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 17 JULY 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience mainly dry weather across most parts of the country on 17 July 2026, according to the latest forecast issued at 2.00 p.m. on 16 July 2026. However, a few showers are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Although rainfall will be limited to a few areas, strong winds of 40–50 km/h are expected at times over the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, together with Matale, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Residents in these regions should remain cautious, especially when travelling or engaging in outdoor activities.

For coastal waters, a few showers may occur in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will continue at 30–40 km/h, strengthening to 50–60 km/h at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also increase to 50 km/h in the sea areas from Vakarai to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee.

Sea Condition

Sea conditions will be rough off the coasts from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai and Galle to Pottuvil, while the waters from Vakarai to Kankasanthurai may become fairly rough. Wave heights are expected to reach 2.0 to 2.5 metres in the sea area extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Fishermen, naval operators and other marine users are advised to exercise caution due to rough seas and strong winds. The public should also stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions in windy areas.
