Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of light showers and strong winds on 06 July 2026, according to the latest weather forecast. A few showers are likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Most other parts of the island will experience mainly dry weather.
Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Rathnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious, especially when travelling or engaging in outdoor activities, as strong winds may cause minor disruptions.
Sea Areas Forecast
Marine conditions will remain hazardous around much of the island during the next 24 hours. A few showers are expected in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo. South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing to 55–65 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also reach 50 kmph in other surrounding sea areas.
The sea will be very rough in the northern and southeastern coastal waters, while other sea areas will be fairly rough. Wave heights of 2.0 to 2.5 metres are expected from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Fishermen and naval communities are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing into rough sea areas until conditions improve.
