Issued at 5.30 a.m. on 04 July 2026, the Department of Meteorology forecasts continued wet weather across several parts of Sri Lanka, with fairly heavy rainfall and strong winds expected in many areas.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Some locations in these areas are likely to receive fairly heavy rain exceeding 50 mm. In addition, several spells of showers are expected in the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.
Strong winds of 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Ratnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee.
The public is advised to take precautions against possible disruptions caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Sea Areas Forecast
For the next 24 hours, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in sea areas extending from Kalpitiya to Galle via Colombo.
Winds will be south-westerly at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 55–65 kmph at times in sea areas from Mullaitivu to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These sea areas will be very rough at times, while other surrounding seas may become fairly rough. Wave heights may increase to 2.0–2.5 metres from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Fishermen and naval communities are urged to exercise caution due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
