SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST 22 JUNE 2026

Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka on 22 June 2026, according to the latest weather forecast. The Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, are likely to experience intermittent rainfall throughout the day.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas should remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions during the afternoon and evening hours.

Fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Area Forecast

Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain unsettled in some coastal regions. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.

As a result, these sea areas are expected to be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas will remain moderate. Fishermen, naval personnel and those engaged in marine activities are advised to exercise caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
