SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 21 JUNE 2026

Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka on 21 June 2026, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology. Rainfall activity will mainly affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely to develop at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, as localized thundershowers may bring strong winds and lightning. The public is requested to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by adverse weather conditions.

Sea Area Forecast

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours.

Winds over the surrounding sea areas will be southwesterly, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. Stronger winds of 50 to 60 kmph can be expected at times in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speeds may also increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.

Sea conditions will be rough at times in the coastal waters from Hambantota to Pottuvil, while sea areas from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar will be fairly rough. Other sea areas around the island are expected to remain moderate.

Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
