Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today, according to the Department of Meteorology. Rainfall activity will be widespread, bringing wet conditions to many regions during the afternoon and evening hours.
Morning showers are also likely in some areas of the Southern Province and in the Ampara district, indicating an early start to the day’s unsettled weather. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected at certain locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central and Southern provinces, as well as in the Mannar district. Residents in these areas should remain alert for possible localized flooding and disruptions.
Misty conditions may occur during the early morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, along with the Anuradhapura and Kurunegala districts. Reduced visibility is possible, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.
The general public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers will occur in several sea areas, particularly from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Winds will be southerly or variable at speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
