Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, according to the latest forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. Widespread rainfall activity will affect many regions, with fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as in the Ampara and Kurunegala districts.
In addition, morning showers are possible in the Batticaloa, Ampara and Hambantota districts, bringing early rainfall to parts of the Eastern and Southern regions. Residents in these areas should remain alert for changing weather conditions throughout the day.
Misty conditions are also expected during the early hours of the morning in several regions, including the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, along with the Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during these periods.
The general public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil. Similar conditions are expected from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. The sea condition around the island will remain slight, but temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
