Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at most places across Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread rainfall to many parts of the island. According to the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Central provinces, as well as in the districts of Kurunegala, Galle and Matara.
Misty conditions are also expected during the early morning hours in several areas, including the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts. These conditions may reduce visibility, and motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling in the early hours.
The general public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Sudden weather changes may occur, especially during the afternoon and evening periods.
