Atmospheric conditions across the island are gradually becoming favorable for the development of evening thundershowers. These conditions are expected to further strengthen from 20 April onwards.
For today, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North-Western and Southern provinces after 1.00 p.m. Some of these showers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Meanwhile, mainly dry weather is expected to prevail in the remaining parts of the island.
During the early morning hours, misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to possible reduced visibility.
The general public is kindly advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by lightning and gusty winds during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. The sea condition around the island will be slight, although temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
