Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Provinces
Sri Lanka is expected to experience cloudy skies and increased rainfall today, 14 October 2026, as a low-level atmospheric disturbance persists over the Bay of Bengal near the island. Heavy showers and thundershowers are likely across several provinces, with some areas facing rainfall exceeding 100 mm.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western provinces. Other parts of the island are expected to experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura district. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also expected at some locations in other parts of the country.
Misty conditions may develop in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility, particularly in areas affected by mist.
The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sri Lanka Sea Weather Forecast
Rainfall is also expected to increase across deep and shallow sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are forecast in sea areas around the island.
Winds will be variable in direction, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kmph. Sea conditions are expected to remain slight to moderate under normal conditions.
However, temporarily strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers. Naval personnel, fishing communities and other sea users are advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and exercise caution when engaging in marine activities.
The public should continue to monitor official weather updates as rainy conditions are expected to persist under the influence of the atmospheric disturbance.
