Rainy conditions across Sri Lanka are expected to intensify from the evening of 02 June, particularly in the southwestern parts of the island, according to the latest weather forecast.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely in some of these areas, raising the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying locations.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for sudden weather changes during the afternoon and evening hours.
In addition to rainfall, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, and in the Trincomalee District. The public is urged to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Conditions Around Sri Lanka
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be southwesterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 55–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Other sea areas may experience winds reaching up to 50 kmph.
The sea areas off the coasts from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw and from Galle to Pottuvil will be rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas will be fairly rough. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution, as strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
