# Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Expected

Sri Lanka is expected to experience showers, afternoon thunderstorms and locally
heavy rainfall in several provinces on Friday, 30 October 2026, according to the
Department of Meteorology. The forecast was issued at 2.00 p.m. on 29 October 2026.

## Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Areas

Several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces
and in the Galle and Matara districts. A few showers may also occur in the North-
Western Province.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Central,
Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts,
after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres is possible at some
locations in these areas.

Mainly fair weather conditions are expected across the remaining parts of the island.

The public is advised to take appropriate precautions against temporary localized
strong winds and lightning that may occur during thunderstorms.

increase to 45 kmph in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Puttalam to
Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

These sea areas may become fairly rough at times. During thundershowers, temporarily
strong gusty winds of 60–70 kmph and very rough seas are possible.
