# **Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several Provinces**

Sri Lanka is expected to experience cloudy skies and increased rainfall over the
next few days due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance persisting in the Bay of
Bengal near the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Northern and Southern
provinces. Heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm is likely at some locations in the
Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central, Uva and Southern provinces. Fairly
heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also possible at some places in other parts of
the island.

Misty conditions may develop in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces
during the early morning hours. The public is advised to remain attentive to future
weather forecasts and take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused
by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

## **Sri Lanka Sea Weather Forecast**

The atmospheric disturbance is also expected to increase rainfall over deep and
shallow sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka during the next few days. Showers or thundershowers
are forecast in sea areas around the island.

Winds will be north-easterly or variable, with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions
are expected to be slight to moderate under normal conditions. However, temporarily
strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Naval and fishing communities are advised to closely follow weather forecasts and
bulletins , before engaging in sea activities. The public should remain alert as
unsettled weather conditions are expected to continue over the coming days.
