# **Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Provinces**

Sri Lanka is expected to experience widespread showers and thundershowers on 12
October 2026, with fairly heavy rainfall forecast in several parts of the island.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in most areas after 1.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa,
Central, Southern, Uva and North-Western provinces. Anuradhapura and Mannar districts
may also experience significant rainfall. Residents in these areas should remain
alert to changing weather conditions, particularly during afternoon and evening
thunderstorms.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage
caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
People engaging in outdoor activities should be especially careful when thunderstorms
develop.

Misty conditions are expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central
and Uva provinces during the early morning hours. Motorists are advised to drive
carefully due to potentially reduced visibility.

### **Sri Lanka Sea Weather Forecast**

Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas surrounding
Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours. Winds will be northeasterly or variable, with
speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kmph. Sea conditions are expected to remain slight
under normal conditions.

However, temporarily strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph and very rough seas
may occur during thundershowers. Naval and fishing communities are urged to remain
attentive to future weather forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of
Meteorology.

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around
13 October. Authorities and coastal communities should monitor subsequent updates
for further information about this developing weather system.
