# **Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Areas**

Showers and thundershowers are expected across most parts of Sri Lanka today, 15
October 2026, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Department 
of Meteorology at 5.30 a.m. Heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places
in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee
and Kurunegala districts.

Rainfall is expected to develop mainly after 1.00 p.m., affecting many parts of 
the island during the afternoon and evening. However, a few showers may occur during
the morning in coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara
districts.

Misty conditions are also expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and
Uva provinces during the early morning hours. Motorists are advised to exercise 
caution in areas affected by mist due to reduced visibility.

The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused
by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

### **Sri Lanka Sea Weather Forecast**

Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas around
Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours. Winds will be variable in direction, with speeds
ranging from 20 to 30 kmph.

Sea conditions around the island are expected to be slight to moderate under normal
conditions. However, temporarily strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 kmph and very
rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Naval personnel, fishing communities and others engaged in marine activities are
advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and take appropriate precautions
when thunderstorms develop.
