A total of 5,747 people have been affected by prevailing rainy weather across Sri
Lanka, with eight deaths and one person reported missing, according to the Disaster
Management Centre (DMC).

According to the latest DMC report, adverse weather conditions have affected 1,594
families across 166 Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs). The report also confirms
that 12 people have sustained injuries due to weather-related incidents.

The heavy rains and associated weather conditions have caused damage to residential
properties in several areas. Four houses have been completely destroyed, while another
953 houses have sustained partial damage, highlighting the impact of the prevailing
weather on affected communities.

Meanwhile, drought conditions continue to affect thousands of families in other
parts of the country, creating additional challenges for communities struggling
with access to safe drinking water.

According to the DMC, a total of 156,756 people from 47,583 families across 32 Divisional
Secretariat Divisions in 12 districts are currently affected by drought.

To address the drinking water shortage, the Disaster Management Centre has arranged
water distribution in 28 of the 32 drought-affected Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

So far, drinking water has been provided to 128,977 people belonging to 38,547 families,
according to the report.

The latest figures highlight the simultaneous challenges posed by rainy weather
and drought in different parts of Sri Lanka. Authorities continue to monitor the
situation and provide assistance to affected communities.

Residents are advised to follow official weather forecasts and guidance from relevant
authorities, particularly in areas experiencing heavy rainfall or water shortages.
